There is a breakdown machine in Akron, Ohio. The guys in 6DEEP have a powerful combination of brutal death metal, metalcore, deathcore, and even industrial elements at times. All this mix makes them a band to be reckoned with and stand out. They formed at the end of 2019 and have been writing and recording for about five years. Nate Rardon (guitar) agreed to talk to Scriptorium and here he tells us how it all happened in the beginning: “… Brandon and Devin were in another band called VAN EVERA from Ohio and they were thinking about doing a different project that was heavier and would get people to mosh more. This music is what we have all kind of grown up listening to and enjoying. A few of us in the band have known each other for over ten years and we have always bonded over this style of music. I have never actually thought about why we enjoy it! …”

The current five-piece 6DEEP is not the typical band that only focuses on rehearsing and playing live when they can. These guys are very clear that they need to leave a phonographic legacy in order to move up the ladder of the music business. Since 2020, they have been releasing singles and it is not until 2023 when they put out the first EP titled 7deadly, with seven songs that give an idea of this band’s display of power. This year they ejected several singles that belonged to the soon-to-be-released EP Dead in 5. Nate gets excited when he talks about how they recorded it: “… We record everything in-house. Devin is our producer and does a phenomenal job with that. He actually produced our 7deadly EP entirely. This time around, we recorded and engineered Dead in 5 and sent it off to Scooter Allen at Rewire Recording Studio where he polished it off with mixing and mastering. We took some time with this record to make sure it was perfect because we are really trying to nail a specific sound that we think we have achieved because this EP sounds insane! We tried to incorporate some rare elements of down-pitched guitars and vocal layering that is not overwhelming but extremely effective for crowd engagement at shows. It worked out really well on this one. We are definitely going to expand on this in the future…”

As I said before, Died in 5, is ready to be released. Actually, it will come out this December 23rd. That is why I asked the band what they wanted to convey in terms of message and how they were doing with the reception of the new material so far. Here is what Nate had to say: “… So far the response to the singles we have put out has been amazing. People love the production and songwriting on these songs and the rest of the tracks on the EP follow that up pretty well in our opinion. Our social media accounts are constantly getting new followers and we are getting messages from people multiple times a week saying they are jamming ‘Idle Hands’ and ‘The Disconnect’…”

Nate continues: “… On this EP in particular a lot of the lyrics have to do with finding yourself and overcoming obstacles you’ve set for yourself mentally. Just being self-aware that things around you are happening and you have to deal with them or they will eat you alive…”

As a lover of discovering new routes, I always come up with a question that may seem trite after you guys read it in almost all my interviews. It motivates me a lot to read about how a new band interacts with its scene and the opinions they have of it. This helps us to travel to the region where they perform. Nate seems to be very appreciative of his scene and reveals what the band’s dreams are as a unit: “… Absolutely, the Cleveland Ohio scene supports local bands 100%. We have had an overwhelming amount of support since the inception of this band and it is continuing to grow. Now that we are out touring, we are trying to make that happen everywhere else as well. This band will do everything we dreamed of: touring full time, playing bigger and bigger shows, and possibly getting to the UK and other areas of the world we have never been to. Fingers crossed! …”

The invitation is extended to listen and get the new Dead in 5 EP in a few days. As you may have already read, 6DEEP is a band that wants to fight for their future and they are working very hard to achieve their goals. It only remains to immerse yourselves in this five-piece’s music. On my side, I highly recommend 6DEEP because there is strength, good ideas, and attitude in them. However, let us say goodbye shortly with Nate's words about what else they have in mind: “…We’re planning a few different tours right now. Our ‘Dead In 5’ tour to follow up the EP will happen in March 2025 where we’ll be in 14 different cities across the Midwest and east coast USA. In May we will have another tour focusing on the southeast USA with some friends but can’t say who yet. We are also thinking of hitting the southwest and west coast USA in late 2025. We plan to tour and write the follow-up to Dead in 5. Thank you guys so much for listening to our music. We are really stoked for you to check out this thing we have poured ourselves into and for that, we won’t stop any time soon. We hope to meet you someday at a show! Brandon Farley (vocals), Devin Moore (guitar), Joel Rositer (drums), Nate Rardon (guitar), Bobby Cowdery (bass). Nate Rardon (@nxte.6d IG) or 6deep directly (@6deepOH, 6deepoh@gmail.com …”
