BLASPHEMOUS GOAT VOMIT “Necromantic Invocation” (2024)
This five-piece act from Fort Worth, TX has improved a lot since the first offering, especially this second album's recording quality. BLASPHEMOUS GOAT VOMIT defines itself as a black metal band with strong influences from MAYHEM or DARK THRONE, but I perceived a lot of grind-core in their musical arrangements and the frantic vocals of the debut album. The vocal element has the strongest link and identity with this dark and cold sound. Contradictorily, the debut album "Unholy Blackened Witchcult Mastery” appeals to me more because the guitar's tone and also the vocal aspects are rougher, but I strongly recommend both albums. BLASPHEMOUS GOAT VOMIT is a band whose power is on the rise. On “Necromantic Invocation”, you can notice more maturity, and although they have not lost aggressiveness, they are not as chaotic as on the debut recording. All the instruments feel more integrated and I would dare to say that the songs are better arranged. In “Necromantic Invocation” I feel something of a slow tempo Death metal and that combination with Black sounds leads the band to gain identity, makes them stand out from their influences, and makes them more attractive. I recommend the initial arpeggios in “Draping the Rotten Chalice”, the sluggish cadence of the song that names the album, and the interesting way to start the wild “Tempter to the Throne”. As I said before, “Necromantic Invocation” is not only superior in sound quality but it is also a very complete album that will make you discover the Black metal arsenal in Texas. This album will be released in cassette format by the Houstonian label The Dread Liar soon. I leave the link below for you to pre-order it. I will be keeping an eye out for this band to see them live when they play in Houston this December. And you guys, stay tuned because the best is yet to be heard. 9.1/10 Alex Sanchez
