INBORN SUFFERING – PALE GREY MONOCHROME
LABEL: ARDUA MUSIC
RELEASE DATE: FEBRUARY 7th 2025
He stands upon the shore of a turbulent winter sea, snow drifting about his feet upon the dull, wet sand. A chill wind blows in across the colourless waves that reflect the colourless sky above, cutting through his thin shirt and carelessly unbuttoned coat that hangs uselessly from one shoulder. It bites at his skin with teeth like needles of ice, but he has no sense of feeling within or without. His empty eyes stare at the storm-tossed waters and he wonders if there is comfort to be found there, in the deep, dark places, hidden from the sun. A peace without end…
After years lost in the silence, far from sight though never far from memory, Inborn Suffering have returned. The kings of Parisian melodic, majestic doom death have emerged from the dust and shadows with a gargantuan new album of heart rending emotion…and while some unexpected returns bring with them only tarnished dreams and faded treasure, Pale Grey Monochrome adorns the Inborn Suffering legacy in sombre gravitas and shades of dusk and gold. As the foreboding ‘Wounding’ falls desolate into the arms of ‘From Lowering Tides’ sadness imbues every lamenting note. As an unkind world bows the shoulders beneath the weight of tragedy, this song swallows you into its darkness, sharing its bitter tears and shattered dreams. ‘Pale Grey Monochrome’ follows with a richly textured guitar riff, before the incredible heft of the first drum beat drives the air from your lungs, like a moment of terrible realisation. Exquisitely paced this wonderful title track leads you on, across vast wastes to the incomparable ‘Tales From An Empty Shell’ – searingly beautiful, this is an absolute masterclass in the melancholy arts of doom. Loss, despair, fear and hope all embrace the listener as they travel on to the sublime fragility and sweeping magnificence of album closer, ‘Drawing Circles’…and there could be no better way to end this incredible work of emotive metal. Pale Grey Monochrome is more than a triumphant return, it is an album that will take you beneath its wings, leaving you breathless and stunned.
Now with the backing of Ardua Music, home to many of the greatest doom death bands around, Inborn Suffering will unveil the sorrow filled tour de force of Pale Grey Monochrome on February 7th. Mixed and mastered with the deftest of touches by Déhà of Opus Magnum Studio (Abduction, Deadspace, Wolvennest etc) and adorned in the powerful artwork of Franck Besançon (Maveth, Solemn Lament, Silent Hill: Townfall etc), Pale Grey Monochrome has been carefully curated by Inborn Suffering and the results are remarkable. In February Ardua music will also reissue Inborn Suffering's two revered early albums, Wordless Hope and Regression To Nothingness – the year ahead looks bleak indeed…
