SARKASM – CARNIVAL OF ATROCITIES
LABEL: XTREEM MUSIC
RELEASE DATE: FEBRUARY 4th 2025

Beneath a grieving, tortured sky, the world burns. Once grand cities wreathed in smoke, their towering edifices crumbling, collapsing into ruin. The remnants of humanity crawl through the ashes on blistering hands and knees, choking on the fumes of their own annihilation. The failed caretakers of a paradise become a boundless charnel house in flame. The dead and the soon to be dead lie in mountains of scorched flesh and heat cracked bone, a testament to the grotesque ignorance and arrogance of man…wilfully blind and consumed by greed until the very end. These are the final moments of our Eden, our miracle of life that we raped and plundered, warped and manipulated into a twisted carnival of atrocities.

Having blazed a trail in the early ‘90s with their four highly regarded demos, Canada’s death/thrash pioneers Sarkasm, burst back into life in 2019 – signing with Xtreem Music and releasing their first full length album, As Empires Decay, in 2023. Now it is time for the next chapter in the Sarkasm story to begin, as they prepare to unleash their second album, the momentous Carnival Of Atrocities. Opening with the forearm smash of ‘I Am Chaos’, Carnival Of Atrocities immediately sets out what Sarkasm are all about; massive crunching riffs, huge, domineering drums and the magnificent vocal power of Bruno Bernier – who also fronts the reborn Obliveon - all brought together in immaculately structured songs where technical complexity is tempered by finely wrought hooks. ‘Murmurs From The Void’ is an early highlight, with Bernier’s vocals rising up between the snapping drums and those thick, textured riffs while a perfectly expressed guitar solo brings the song to its conclusion, with every note considered and carefully chosen. Throughout the album, songs like ‘Cold Empty Rooms’ and ‘Echoes Of Hyperion’ demonstrate that Sarkasm stand apart from the pack; operating in a different sphere to most bands, they plot a course that heads confidently into unexplored territories. When the armour-plated ‘Deadweight’ fades into silence, after a relentless, remorseless display of bludgeoning power, you are left with a need for more…for one more play, one more ride through the maze of blood, one more journey through the Carnival Of Atrocities!

The sound on Carnival Of Atrocities, captured by producer Maxime Lacroix (Gastrorrexis etc) and the mastering of the respected Dan Swanö (Asphyx, Avulsed, Incantation etc) is perfect for Sarkasm, giving a strength and prominence to every instrument, without sacrificing the clarity required to appreciate these well defined songs. When Xtreem Music release this stunning album on February 4th, on CD, vinyl and cassette formats, it will surely see Sarkasm ascending to the heady heights that their music has always deserved. Be prepared for a masterclass in technical, addictive, impactful metal that you’ll never forget!
